Lucent Dreaming has set up crowdfunder to raise money to fulfil its book projects this financial year.
The publishing house was initially launched in 2021 by Jannat Ahmed, with a strong focus on developing local Welsh and emerging UK writers.
Lucent Dreaming’s first book project Maps and Rooms: Writing from Wales (June 2022) was published in collaboration with Literature Wales’ Representing Wales scheme. Since its launch, Lucent Dreaming has published 142 writers across its titles over the past five years, including Beyond/Tu Hwnt, which was recently shortlisted in Discovery category of The British Book Awards.
Jannat Ahmed, founder of Lucent dreaming said “Lucent Dreaming originally launched its website in 2017 and after four years of successfully platforming international creative writing in our magazine, I decided to expand into UK book publishing. Lucent Dreaming fills a gap in the market, offering a platform for new writers to publish beautiful work in beautiful ways.
“We have put our heart and soul into our work, expanding the reach of local creatives. Our dream has always been to offer a platform to those who might not always be offered the chance to publish. We see ourselves as a stepping stone for authors and editors in their career journeys.
“This year, one of our anthologies was shortlisted at The British Book Awards. This was an incredible achievement, and a testament to the hard work and dedication of our editors and wider team. We want to continue to publish beautiful books, and to keep sharing stories from around Wales.
“In response to an unexpected funding gap, we have launched a crowdfunder, with a target of raising £3,300 by 4 November 2026. This will close our funding gap, enable us to deliver our existing projects until the end of the year.
“If you would like to support the local arts in south Wales, we would be grateful for any donations – it makes such a difference.
“I’d like to thank everyone who has donated so far, and everyone who has supported Lucent Dreaming over the last five years. We have already reached 88% of our target.”
