Ode to my toddler by Li-Li Nectar Bennett (Lucent Dreaming Issue 12)

All we are is snacks and bones
Cream cracker corpses
Raisin rainbows rising
I am swept in a black currant
Of flapjack flashbacks
And breadstick blues.
We have no mealtime, no time at all
We surf the currant from hour to hour
Ours is a tasty one, without crusts
We are so empty yet so full.

A born and bred Londoner, Li-Li Nectar is an avid houmous-maker and life-long coffee drinker. Head of Finance turned English teacher, Li-Li’s favourite mantra is ‘Why put off until tomorrow what you can do today.’
