Like little creatures by DS Maolalai (Lucent Dreaming Issue 7)

words
roll a mosey
and stroll down main street.

flit like
little creatures
and slip the quick
away. all those conversations
we had once in the sun,

flashing
with glorious yellow
for a moment,

only a moment,
and then dying
and drying,

flying on wind,
paper brown
like blown and broken dandelions.

DS Maolalai has been nominated four times for Best of the Net and three times for the Pushcart Prize. His poetry has been released in two collections, Love is Breaking Plates in the Garden (Encircle Press, 2016) and Sad Havoc Among the Birds (Turas Press, 2019).
